Welcome to East Tennessee Children's Hospital Perioperative Surgical Services. We want your stay to be as comfortable as possible. You will have all of the specialized services of Children's Hospital immediately available if needed by your child during his/her surgery experience.
Perioperative Surgery means all that goes into your child having a surgical experience. Before, during and after surgery are very important to a successful outcome, and the staff at East Tennessee Children's Hospital is ready to provide your whole family with the care they need.

Learn About Your Child's Surgery
We offer a tour before it happens.
We understand a visit to the hospital can make any child nervous and having surgery can be scary. That’s why Children’s Hospital offers pre-admission tours to ease your child’s mind.
We welcome patients and families to attend a pre-admission tour before a scheduled surgery. A volunteer will show your child and your family around the hospital. You will learn what to expect before and after your child’s surgery.
Tours are conducted Thursday nights at 6 p.m. Reservations are required. We meet inside the entrance of the South Tower on the corner of 21st Street and White Avenue. The tour takes about an hour.
Call our Volunteer Services Department at 865-541-8904 to schedule your pre-admission tour. Each patient will receive a special gift just for taking the tour.

Scheduling and Arrival Time
Many doctors or offices tell you a time for your child's surgery when you are in the office. Sometimes we have emergencies or changes in doctor schedules. This may change the time of your child's surgery from the time your doctor told you. Children's Hospital Pre-Post Area will call one to two days before your child's surgery to give you the most up-to-date arrival time.
Call 865-541-8402 if Children's Hospital does not call you by 5:30 p.m. the day before surgery. Outpatient Surgery is open Monday-Friday until 7 p.m. The Inpatient Surgery Unit can answer your questions after 7 p.m. or on weekends or holidays. The Inpatient surgery number is (865) 541-8580.
