Mighty Max Makes His Own Journey

Danielle and Jared Garceau were thrilled when they learned they were pregnant with their second child. To find out the gender, the family opted to run a full genetic panel that also revealed their baby boy would be born with an extra set of chromosomes that would make him extra special.

Now three years old, Max is reaching big milestones. The Garceau’s have learned a lot about Down syndrome and how they can best support Max to help him reach his full potential.

"Don't compare your child with other children. One child may pick up a skill faster than another. Our doctor in the NICU at Children's Hospital encouraged us to allow Max to have his own journey rather than place him on a progress scale,” said Max’s mom, Danielle Garceau.

The Garceau’s have learned to trust the process and enjoy this time in Max’s incredible development by focusing on the present. They’ve also found support within their community and on social media to celebrate who Max is and offer encouragement to parents with children that have Down syndrome.
