A Heart for Giving

Heart Surgery Survivor Seeks Career in Fundraising for Life-saving Treatment at Children's Hospital

Callie has a Heart for Giving

"At 3 years old, I underwent open-heart surgery to repair three holes in my heart. Without the surgery my life expectancy was 19 – I turn 26 this year. Growing up, I was keenly aware of the practices/procedures/people that saved my life. From the cardiologists to the nurses, to the researchers who made the type of surgery I had possible, I knew that they each played a role in my story. My experience inspired me to dream of playing a part in children’s healthcare. It is an honor to be an Annual Giving Officer at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital (where my pediatric cardiologist practices!) and to raise funds that aid in lifesaving research and medical capabilities. It is one of my greatest joys to share the stories of our patients with our donors, and to know that the dollars I raise will save lives just like mine."

-- Callie, Annual Giving Officer
