Former Patient Uses Experience at Children's Hospital to Start a Medical Career
East Tennessee Children's Hospital treats thousands of kids every year. Our physicians, staff and volunteers go out of their way to make every family's visit to the hospital, a specialist, urgent care center or pediatrician as stress-free as possible. Sometimes our patients' memories of their experience at Children's can resonate through their entire life.
Former patient and current EEG Tech Ansley McConkey remembers a particular nurse that made a big impression when she was a little girl at Children's - so much of an impression, it helped propel her career:
“I recently saw a Facebook memory of myself as a patient 12 years ago and had a trip down memory lane. After my pediatrician thought I had appendix issues, I found out I had intestinal malrotation through several tests. All staff at East Tennessee Children's Hospital were incredible and caring during my week's stay. One nurse in particular, Tinsley, left an impression on me as she went above and beyond to help me go home. I expressed so much interest in working with kids one day after my experience that I eventually asked my pediatrician for a letter of recommendation. Fast-forward 12 years later, I still have the letter to remind myself that my teenage dreams are a reality! Today, I get to help kids like Mighty Max. I am forever humbled that I get to have this job!”
